Start here for the recurring household collections residents use most often.
Richmond collects household trash weekly Monday through Thursday using the city supercan. Place the cart out no earlier than 4 p.m. the day before and no later than 6 a.m. on collection day, then remove it before 7 a.m. the following day.
Eligible Richmond households receive every-other-week curbside recycling through the regional CVWMA schedule. The recycling week also determines when the city's regular bulk and brush route visits the address.

How Richmond service works
Use the official trash and recycling calendar to identify the address's recycling week. Set ordinary eligible bulk at the normal trash location during that week without an appointment. Residents who need collection within 24 hours may request the city's paid expedited service through RVA311.

Richmond collects eligible bulk and brush every other week on the household's trash day during its recycling week.

Regular bulk and brush service is available every other week. The optional 24-hour bulk or brush request costs $100, and a separate appliance collection request costs $50 under the city's published fee schedule.
Place items at the same location used for household trash on the night before the assigned trash day during recycling week. Collection is typically completed that day; if not, leave the items until the crew returns, which the city says should occur by Saturday of that recycling week.

What makes Richmond service different
Richmond residents do not need to guess between trash week and recycling week: bulk belongs out on the regular trash day that falls inside the address's recycling week. If it is not collected that day, the city allows the crew through Saturday before residents report it missed.

Accepted examples
Eligible household bulk and brush that is not prohibited by the city may be placed out during recycling week. Storm branches should be cut into pieces no longer than four feet and placed at the usual collection point because crews do not enter private property.
Not accepted
Construction debris, tires, carpet, auto parts, bricks, drywall, pipes, paint, gasoline or propane tanks, and lawn mowers are prohibited from regular bulk and brush pickup. Appliances require the separate paid appliance collection process.

Richmond does not collect trash on city holidays. Collection resumes the following day and continues through Friday, shifting the remaining affected routes one day later that week.

Does Richmond bulk pickup require an appointment?

What if Richmond does not collect my bulk items on trash day?
Leave eligible items in place through Saturday of that recycling week. If they remain after that, report the missed collection through RVA311.
