The City of Chesapeake’s Waste Management Division of the Public Works Department provides refuse collection once every week for over 72,000 residences. City residents may also dispose of residential solid waste at SPSA facilities. Waste Management Division .
The city page does not give a full curbside recycling program description. It notes mixed paper can be recycled at designated drop off sites, Chesapeake Recycles Day occurs four times a year for items like electronics, plastic bags, sensitive documents, hazardous waste, and other recyclables, and subscription based recycling services are available. How Chesapeake service works
Request pickup by calling the Customer Contact Center at 757-382-2489, submitting a request through the Chesapeake Service Requests portal, or using the Chesapeake Service Request app. Official city page: Waste Management Division .

Local limits before placement
Bulk waste counts toward 12 collections per year. Requests should be made no later than the weekday before your normal collection day. Items may be placed at the curb no earlier than three days before your normal collection day. The city says demand is high and brief delays may occur. Waste Management Division .
Place items at the curb, not in the trash bin. Put items out no earlier than three days before your normal collection day, and make the request no later than the weekday before your normal collection day. Keep piles at least 3 feet from mailboxes, trash carts, or vehicles, and do not block sidewalks or drains. For larger yard debris, pile or bundle it no larger than 4 ft. x 4 ft. x 6 ft., with limbs/trunks under 6 inches in diameter. Waste Management Division .

Accepted examples
Accepted bulk household items include white goods, boxes/bags of household dry goods, furniture, mattress/box spring, patio furniture, and small garage clean out items. Bulk tree/yard debris includes bushes, shrubbery, tree branches/limbs, and large yard trimmings. Refrigerators/freezers must have doors removed and glass taped. Waste Management Division .
Not accepted
Not accepted include hazardous waste, dead animals, carpet, tires, automotive parts, shingles, wood and fencing for yard waste, construction and demolition debris, manufacturing process debris, loose or dangerous refuse, tree trunks/logs/stumps that exceed the size limits, and contractor trimmed limb debris.
