Garbage is collected weekly, except for the small cart plan with collection every other week. Place your cart out by 6 a.m. on the assigned day.
Residential recycling is collected weekly. Recycling service is available to apartment buildings as well as smaller homes; it does not follow the small garbage cart's every other week plan.

How Saint Paul service works
Put regular bulky items at your usual garbage collection spot by 6 a.m. on garbage day. Label them bulky. A separate truck may take up to two business days; call 651-266-6101 if they remain after that.

Local limits before placement
Each garbage cart includes 12 bulky items per calendar year, with no monthly cap. Additional items cost $30 each plus tax. The annual count includes items collected before July 1.
Keep items beside, not against, the cart. Empty liquids, food and fuel, and remove batteries. Every other week customers use their garbage collection week, not the off week.

The regular bulky allowance covers homes with one to four units and other properties enrolled in City garbage service. Buildings with separate private garbage service must use their own provider.

A listed holiday moves that day's garbage and recycling collection, and the remaining weekday routes, one day later through Saturday. Routes before the holiday keep their usual day.
Have carts ready by 6 a.m.
Use the delayed day during an affected holiday week. Recycling remains weekly; small garbage carts on the every other week plan still follow their assigned collection week.
Mattress appointments are separate
Keep the date confirmed by the mattress recycling service. The cart calendar does not assign or automatically move a mattress appointment.

Monday routes move to Tuesday, and each later route also moves one day through Saturday.

How do I recycle a mattress in Saint Paul?
Mattresses, box springs and metal bed frames use free scheduled recycling, separate from the 12 item garbage allowance. There is no annual mattress limit. For homes with one to four units, book with Second Chance Recycling or call 612-787-3770; each appointment accepts up to four items. Residents of larger buildings should ask their property manager to arrange the building's collection.
Where do I put a mattress on its appointment day?
Have it outside by 6 a.m., visible and accessible from the front boulevard or alley, and label it for recycling. If garbage is collected that day, keep the mattress away from the garbage carts so the wrong truck does not take it.
