Start here for the recurring household collections residents use most often.
Spokane collects residential garbage weekly. Extra material that does not fit in the cart may be set beside it in an eligible bag, can, box, or four-foot bundle and is billed at the city's current extra-material rate.
Residential recycling is collected every other week on the same weekday as garbage. The official recycling map and address schedule identify whether the property is on the current collection week.

Call 311 inside the city or 509-755-CITY before collection day and describe the large item so Spokane can send the correct truck. After the pickup is arranged, set the item out with the address's regular collection service as directed.

Spokane Solid Waste provides weekly garbage service and can collect eligible large or bulky items on the regular collection day when the resident contacts the city in advance.

Large-item service is arranged item by item and may carry a published collection charge. Ordinary extra garbage may be placed in an additional bag, can, or box for the city's current extra-material fee; temporary city dumpsters are available for larger cleanouts.
Place garbage and recycling carts out by 6 a.m. on collection day, at least three feet apart and within two feet of the curb with the lid opening toward the street. Keep carts below the 200-pound limit and follow the dispatcher or 311 instructions for the scheduled bulky item.

What makes Spokane service different
Spokane's regular cart truck is not automatically equipped for a couch, appliance, or other oversized object. Calling ahead is what assigns the right truck to the address's regular collection day and prevents an unexplained item from being left at the curb.

Accepted examples
Eligible large household objects such as furniture and appliances may be collected after advance notice. The city also offers separate options for extra garbage, temporary dumpsters, yard and food waste, and regulated material at its solid-waste facilities.
Not accepted
Do not assume an unarranged bulky item will be taken by the regular cart truck. Household hazardous waste, regulated electronics, fire debris, and other restricted material must follow the city's facility and disposal rules rather than ordinary curbside collection.

Spokane's 2026 calendar delays collection by one day after New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Independence Day falls on Saturday in 2026, so regular weekday collection is not delayed for that holiday.
