Chicago divides Blue Cart recycling into six geographic service areas. Holiday recycling rules differ because LRS collects areas 1, 3, 5 and 6, while Chicago Streets and Sanitation collects areas 2 and 4.

Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) collects Blue Cart recycling in these four zones. The city reports that the zones serve roughly 103,000, 110,000, 115,000 and 103,000 households, respectively.

Chicago's Department of Streets and Sanitation (DSS) collects Blue Cart recycling in these two zones, which serve roughly 77,000 and 112,000 households.
Why the holiday lists differ
The numbers describe collection territories rather than named neighborhoods, wards or ZIP codes. Use the holiday list for the organization that normally empties the property's Blue Cart.
